Here’s the Kurosawa film that inspired Star Wars! Set during the Japanese clan wars of the 16th century, the movie follows a fugitive princess as she flees through enemy territory accompanied by a loyal general (Toshiro Mifune) and two oafish, constantly bickering peasants. This immensely enjoyable comedy epic, Kurosawa’s first film in scope, boasts breathless action, stunning vistas, and big laughs. Mifune even does his own stunts. Original, uncut version! Subtitles. 139 min
