Brigitte Bardot delivers her best performance in this Clouzot rarity.She plays Dominique, a modern, uninhibited young woman on trial for the murder of her sister’s fiancé who was also Dominique’s lover. Flashbacks re-create the events that led to this tragedy, and in time it becomes apparent that what’s really on trial is Dominique’s carefree, liberated, “immoral” lifestyle—a threat to the established social order.
