France | 2018 | Coralie Fargeat
This new French rape-revenge drama is truly a horror film for our Time’s Up/#MeToo era. Written and directed by a female making her feature debut, it tells of an L.A. woman who joins her older married boyfriend, and later his two hunting buddies, for a romp at his remote desert outpost. But when they abuse here, they become the ones hunted. Like its male-directed predecessors, Revenge is brutal, bloody, and violent. It’s also gorgeous, gripping, and galvanizing. Deal with it. “Both tautly controlled and wildly over-the-top, executed with flashy style, sly visual humor and a subversive feminist sensibility.” –Hollywood Reporter. No one under 18 admitted! Subtitles. DCP. 108 min.
