David Byrne, in cowboy hat and convertible, introduces us to some of the eccentric residents of the (fictional) town of Virgil, Texas, as they prepare for the “celebration of specialness” that will commemorate their burg’s sesquicentennial. Many of the film’s “true stories” were gleaned from American tabloids. With John Goodman, Spalding Gray, Swoosie Kurtz, and musical numbers by the Talking Heads and others. 89 min.
