Paper writing season is here!

Yes indeed it is that time again. Finals are upon us, and for many that means papers. Long papers, short papers, research papers and personal papers. We all have papers to write. For some, papers are easy, but for the rest of us, they are a major pain. Not to worry though, there are a couple of apps that can help you out with that. First, writing is composed of words. Knowing which words to use and when to use them is incredibly important for a successful piece of writing. The dictionary and thesaurus are absolutely vital in finding the right words to say.  Thankfully, Mobile Systems has produced a free dictionary app for you. [caption id="attachment_3825" align="alignnone" width="225" caption="I will abduct this school equipment!"][/caption] The interface is extremely simple. There is a list of words, and a few search options. Once you have found the word you're looking for... [caption id="attachment_3820" align="alignnone" width="225" caption="I will nobble this school equipment?"][/caption] It just hands you a simple definition and a list of related words and synonyms, much like any good dictionary thesaurus would. This tool is easy to use, and helpful. But we come into the second part of writing, which is the dreaded grammar. Sure, Microsoft Word has grammar check, but it isn't always accurate. Grammar is more than just a thing that some people are snobs about, it's the basic structure of language, and if you fail to use it correctly then no one can understand you. Words are the notes, but grammar is the song, you dig? So it's very important to brush up on your grammatical skills before tackling a paper. Both for your own grade and for your professor's sanity. Thankfully, there's a free app for that as well. Eknath Kadam has released a lite version of their renowned education program: Grammar Up. It exists to reschool you in the structure and style of the English language. [caption id="attachment_3823" align="alignnone" width="225" caption="Also, nice simple layout."][/caption] It accomplishes this task by quizzing you on the basic tenets of grammatical structure in the English language until you remember what conjunctions do, if you didn't remember from schoolhouse rock. [caption id="attachment_3824" align="alignnone" width="225" caption="Oh yeah, verb tenses. Bring it!"][/caption] Ultimately, if you miss a few, it will tell you what you did wrong, and explain why the correct answer is correct. That's always nice. [caption id="attachment_3822" align="alignnone" width="225" caption="But I didn't miss a few, because I am the grammar mammerjammer."][/caption] So with these tools at your disposal, paper writing should be a breeze and a half. Get done with your finals, because summer is on the horizon and I can almost smell the hotdogs. Or is that the scent of dead fish from Lake Erie? Either way, it is the scent of freedom. Mobile Systems Advanced English Dictionary and Thesaurus is available for FREE Eknath Kadam's Grammar Up is available as a lite version for FREE, or paid for 5.99 This is my last app review for CIA's Digital Canvas Initiative and I'd like to thank the readers of this blog, for following and supporting innovations in art education.
