Sketchbook Express for the iPad brings Autodesk's free drawing app to your fingertips.

Sketchbook Express is a program initially released free with Wacom's Intuos 4 and Bamboo 3 graphics tablets. It received good reviews, with the general consensus of "well it isn't Photoshop, but it isn't bad either." However mildly the original program was reviewed, its tablet-based counterpart is one of the best drawing tools for the Ipad I've seen so far. The interface is intuitive. One finger to draw, two to move and zoom, three to bring up menus. There are many brushes, with endless opacity and size options, colors, and a color picker for sampling native colors from work or photographs. Layers make managing your colors, text, and line easy. Reflection mode even allows you to draw in perfect axial symmetry with the other side of your canvas. For all of your benefit, I have used this program, and will share my steps to creating a kitschy photo trace with all of you. This is me in my costume makeup. You may have noticed I am terrible and scary. Sketchbook express will help though! Using a pencil tool, trace the outlines of important features. Keep flashing the opacity of your bottom photo layer on and off to keep your lines on track. By sampling the colors of your original photo, fill in the primary colors, shadows and highlights in a new layer underneath your original linework. Add a tagline! Text comes in a variety of fonts and you can manipulate it the same way you would any other object on your canvas. Ta daa! Isn't that better? no? it's even worse? Well art is all a matter of taste anyway. You get the gist though, Sketchbook Express is a free, versatile drawing app for the Ipad, Iphone, and Android systems. Happy drawing! Sketchbook Express is FREE and can be found here
