Julia Maddalina '18

Julia Maddalina '18

Title Student Ambassador

I have been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil. My parents, both having been fine art majors, recognized my passion, obsession, and drive, and continued to encourage me. When I turned 14, I was introduced to one of my mentors, Steve Carpenter. I have taken many oil painting and figure study classes with him over the past four years. Since I began to get involved in the Rochester Art community, I have taken lessons and workshops with artists Chris Kolupski, Olivia Kim, and Kevin Feary, along with national artists Scott Burdick, Robert Liberace, Michelle Dunaway, David Kassan, and Jeff Hein. I find studying the figure to be both challenging and limitless and believe that studying the work of the masters represents the highest level of learning. A little bit of everything I learn moves though my works, as I continue to develop my own unique style. I have loved my time at CIA! My peers and the staff members here are like a family to me. I hope to graduate with a BFA in Illustration and a concentration in Biomedical Art.

Morgan Mansfield '18

Title Student Ambassador

Hi! My name is Morgan Mansfield and I am a sophomore Drawing major. I am from Loveland, Ohio, which is suburb of Cincinnati. It takes around four hours to drive home to see my family. I have a cat that lives with me and my two CIA roommates in Little Italy. I like to draw in an illustrative style, but I try to expand my media and content choice, which is why I chose my major. I originally came to CIA for illustration. I am interested in science-fiction, retro horror films, and music. These interests are apparent in my work as well as my own unique style. I also spend a lot of time making 3D work and painting. Being an artist to me means trying new things and discovering what I am capable of communicating visually. I enjoy helping others with their work and talking about art!

Davon Brantley '18

Title Student Amassador

My name is Davon Brantley, and I currently attend the Cleveland Institute of Art full-time. I love being full of energy and making sure everyone feels comfortable in an environment and helping others become themselves. I use my art to connect with others and specifically focus on a spiritual connection which would make people feel joy or other emotions from my work. I plan on being in a nonprofit organization that helps put art into the community with different mediums, whether that's Dance, Photography, Painting, Tattooing, and many other forms! I also really like food.

Title Student Ambassador

I’m Key-Shawn Austin also known as “K” around the school. I was born in Brooklyn, New York but recently came to the Cleveland Institute of Art from Florida to challenge myself using different materials and narratives in the Sculpture and Expanded Media program. During my time at CIA I have learned to incorporate, not just skill, but passion about my practice in all that I do. I became a student ambassador for my upcoming sophomore year to help further my ability to become a gallery owner working with people for my career after CIA.

Erika Grauzinis '19

Erika Grauzinis '19

Title Student Ambassador

My name is Erika and I am majoring in Illustration with an emphasis in Painting. I’m from Chicago, but I decided to come to CIA because of the amazing community within the school and the broad range of opportunities CIA provides. Although I do most of my illustrations in oil paint and watercolor, I love experimenting with different mediums like wood, ceramics and glass. CIA makes it really easy for me to try new techniques in different major areas, and expand my knowledge beyond my major classes. I hope to pursue editorial or children’s book illustration upon graduation.
