Jacob Koestler is an artist and musician from Johnstown, PA and is currently living in Cleveland Heights. He holds an MFA in Photography and Integrated Media from Ohio University. His photographs and videos have been shown and published internationally at galleries including The Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, The New Wilmington Arts Association in Delaware, The Center for Emerging Visual Arts in Philadelphia, The Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC, The Australian Centre for Photography and Beach Gallery in London. He is also the recipient of Pittsburgh Filmmakers’ Emerging Photographer Award and a project grant from The Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts.

Koestler is also the cofounder of My Idea of Fun, an artist collective and archive based in Western Pennsylvania. Since 2007, the group has released 317 albums and publications, including more than a dozen of Koestler’s own photography books. In addition to visual art, he also creates music and multi-channel video performances under the name Rural Carrier; the project acts as a means to collaborate and perform in new ways, both live and online. Jacob is currently the technical specialist and adjunct instructor in The Cleveland Institute of Art’s Photography + Video program.

In his most recent work, Koestler uses photography, video and installation to create loose stream of conscious narratives set in rural Appalachia, the Rust Belt and other post-industrial settings. His multimedia show, Go Away Everywhere, is currently on view at FORUM Artspace in the 78th Street Studios. The show can be viewed through appointment, and there will be a closing reception on Friday, February 19.
