CIA's iPad Curriculum Turns Two

Student Life . Our Campus . Campus Unification

Campus Unification

For the past 25 years, the Cleveland Institute of Art has operated in two academic buildings, the Joseph McCullough Center for the Visual Arts at 11610 Euclid Avenue and the Gund Building at 11141 East Boulevard. In 2009, we began a major capital campaign to modernize and unify the Cleveland Institute of Art campus with an extensive renovation of the Joseph McCullough Center for the Visual Arts (JMC) and the upcoming construction of a new academic building adjacent to JMC.

Phase I of our campus modernization and unification project—the complete renovation of our Joseph McCullough Center for the Visual Arts—finished in mid-December 2010. The overall reconfiguration of space created seven new computer labs, six new technology-enabled classrooms, and new facilities for photographyTIME–digital artsbiomedical artceramics, and sculpture

Phase II—the construction of a new 91,000-square-foot building immediately west of and fully interconnected to the McCullough building on Euclid Avenue—will begin in 2013. This building will be home to the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque, our nationally ranked design majors, acclaimed biomedical art and digital arts programs, art galleries, and administrative offices. The new building will be named for George Gund II, CIA’s board president from 1942–66.

The unified Cleveland Institute of Art campus, together with the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland (MOCA), will be the anchors of a revitalized arts and retail district envisioned for the portion of University Circle's Euclid-Mayfield Triangle, stretching along Euclid Avenue from Mayfield Road to 117th Street.
