Convivium33 Gallery Show Features 6 CIA Women

An April 2011 show at Convivium33 Gallery showcases selected works by leading female regional artists, including six from CIA.

Five Cleveland Institute of Art graduates and two faculty members will be among 15 women featured in an exhibition, 21st Century Expressions of The Second Sex, on view at Convivium33 Gallery in Cleveland from April 3 through May 8.

In celebration of The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir’s seminal 1949 study of women, curator Alenka Banco chose women artists of different ages, working in different media, to showcase the variety of talent Northeast Ohio women artists possess.

Included in the show are Professor Barbara Stanczak ’90, adjunct faculty member Liz Maugans, and the following alumnae: Anna Arnold ’83, Susan Squires ’83, Kristen Cliffel ’90, and Brittany Campbell ’09.

The show opens with a public reception on Friday, April 1, from 6–10pm, with a performance at 8pm of scenes from Insomnia: The Waking of Herselves by Cleveland Public Theatre.

Convivium33 Gallery is in the Josaphat Arts Hall at 1433 East 33rd Street, a one-way street between St. Clair and Superior avenues. Enter from Superior.
