The Cleveland Institute of Art Hosts Cuyahoga County Regional Exhibition of the National Scholastic Awards

Cleveland: The Cleveland Institute of Art will host the 29th Annual Cuyahoga County Regional Exhibition of the National Scholastic Awards in the Institute’s Reinberger Galleries. The show will open with a reception on January 18 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. that is free and open to the public.

The exhibit recognizes creative achievement in area junior high and high school students. The young artists will be competing for cash prizes, certificates, medals and scholarship awards. A panel of local professional artists and art educators jury the exhibit and select winners from over 1,000 entries. Students who receive Portfolio Awards and Gold Key Awards will continue to the national competition held in the spring in New York City. Award-winning artwork in several mediums including animation, digital imagery, painting, and photography will be on display in the Reinberger Galleries until February 1, 2009.

Since its start in 1927, the Scholastic Art Awards have acted as a venue for the community to view the exceptional artwork of public and private school students. It also allows students, parents and faculty the opportunity to understand the importance of developing and encouraging creativity, and the limitless opportunities bound with an art education. Past winners include Truman Capote, Robert Redford, Andy Warhol, and Sylvia Plath.

The Reinberger Galleries are located at 11141 East Boulevard. Scholastic Exhibition Gallery Hours are Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. (closed Monday, January 19, 2009). For more information visit www.cia.edu or call 216-421-7460.
