CIA awards more than $10.5 million to students for 2016-17

Current students who won named scholarships were announced April 29 at an assembly in CIA’s Peter B. Lewis Theater. Scholarships are given for outstanding work in all of CIA’s 15 major areas of study. Support for the awards comes from endowments held by the Institute and from annual gifts made to the school.

CIA’s most generous award is an four-year, full-tuition scholarship granted upon admission to the college based on high school academic records and an outstanding portfolio. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA to continue receiving the award. Current recipients are freshman Erykah Townsend, sophomore Julia Maddalina and senior Austin Frank.

Also announced at the assembly was that Interior Architecture major Shriya Garg will represent the graduating student class with a speech at commencement on May 14, 2016. The student commencement speaker is chosen by the Office of Academic Affairs based on nominations from faculty and submission of written remarks.

Professor Gretchen Goss, chair of the Jewelry + Metals Department, will receive the prestigious Viktor Schreckengost Excellence in Teaching Award during commencement this year. The award recognizes teaching excellence over the course of at least 10 years.
