Library

How do I renew books?

Most books may be renewed by stopping in the library with your CIA ID, or by creating a PIN account and renewing the items online. The number of renewals allowed varies by item.

Where do I return my library books?

All materials must be returned to the library where they were borrowed. Gund Library items and OhioLINK items should be returned to the Gund Library. Most items should be placed in either of the book drops.

Will I get a reminder when my books are almost due?

A notice will be sent to your CIA email address several days before your materials are due. Do not reply to this email.

What is an artists' book?

A book made by an artist as a work of art.

Can I check out artists' books?

The artists’ books collection can only be used in the library. It is helpful to make a request in advance if you would like to view any of the artists’ books.

Can I use artists' books for my class?

Yes. Faculty members should direct such requests to the Library Director with at least two weeks advance notice.

The Contemporary Artists Index is a unique resource developed and maintained by the Gund Library staff. Look here for artists, artists groups, photographers, craftspeople, designers, and design firms whose work appears in select publications added to the CIA Library since 1991. The index includes Gund Library call numbers. Contact a member of the library staff if you need help using this index. less

Can periodicals be checked out?

No. The periodicals are for in-library use only.

Can I make an appointment to talk with a librarian about my research paper?

Absolutely!! We would love to help you with your research. To make an appointment, stop in the library, call or email any librarian.

Will the library staff put items on course reserve for use by the students in my class?

Yes. Please go the Library Services page, and then to Services for Faculty. You will find a copy of the reserve form and the current guidelines for course reserves.

My instructor said that there are items on course reserve in the library that I need to read. What does that mean?

Many faculty members place items on course reserve for a specific class. What that means is that these materials are kept behind the desk and are available to check out for a limited amount of time, giving everyone a chance to use them. A... more

What is SearchOhio?

SearchOhio is a consortium of 19 of the largest public libraries in Ohio. Like OhioLINK, items can be requested online and sent to the Gund Library for pickup. For help requesting items using SearchOhio, contact a member of the library staff.

How do I find a journal article?

A good place to start is the Find Articles section of the Library home page. If you need help with any of the databases, please contact a member of the staff.

Yes! ARTstor is a digital image collection with over 1 million images in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities, and social sciences. It's a great resource for Art History classes, as well as classes in just about every area of study. It has excellent tools for viewing and presenting images from any source. Any CIA faculty, student or staff member may register for an account using their CIA email address. Instructors have access to extra features, including the ability to create image folders that they can share with their classes. less

Can I access the library's research databases from off campus?

The OhioLINK databases are available from off campus with your library account number. The State Library of Ohio databases are also accessible from off campus with your Ohio zip code. How do I recommend a library purchase?

The library staff welcomes suggestions for materials to be included in our collection. Please first check our catalog to be certain that the item isn’t already part of our collection.

Are there scanners in the library?

Yes. We have two scanners.

Sunday 12 noon-6pm

The circulation desk and group study room close and the copiers are turned off 15 minutes before the library closes.
