Overview

All unmarried, first-time students at CIA who are under the age of 21 and whose permanent residence is outside of Cuyahoga County are required to live in the residence hall for their first full academic year. Taplin, the residence hall, consists of single, double and quad rooms, common areas providing space for work on studio assignments, a large main lounge, and laundry rooms.
Taplin is staffed by a Graduate Hall Director, as well as Resident Assistants.
All students housed in the residence hall are required to join the Case Western Reserve University meal plan and take their meals in CWRU dining halls and cafeterias. Click here to learn more about the mealplan.
Residence hall housing contracts are issued for a full academic year. The required $150 housing deposit is forfeited if the contract is not fulfilled. The room charges vary for our quad, double and single rooms, as well as for our four available meal plans. First-year students are typically housed in doubles. Although we offer several different Housing options, no one option is guaranteed. By marking your preference on the application, it is just that, a preference. While we try out best to accommodate the students’ requests, second and third choices are also considered.
Application for a room in the residence
hall should be filed as soon as possible and is included in CIA’s
acceptance package. Once we receive your application and deposit, other
materials will be mailed and should be completed and returned promptly.
Students must submit the application and the required $150 housing
deposit before May 1st to ensure that their preference of room
assignment will be given first consideration.
Students who have completed their first
year of studies are free to choose their living arrangements, either in
the residence hall or off-campus. For those who choose to live off
campus, the Office of Student Life maintains a housing list of available
apartments near the campus.
Additional Options for housing:
Upperclass Apartments
CIA also has several apartments for upper-class students. These apartments are 3 bedrooms and house 4 students each. Space is limited and students have the opportunity to enter the housing lottery in the Spring semester to have their name chosen to select an apartment with friends. For students who did not get an opportunity to select an apartment through the housing lottery, there are plenty of opportunities to live in the surrounding neighborhoods of CIA. Many upper-class student find housing within a 5 minute walk to campus.
Recovery House at Case
An alternative housing option is available for CIA students who want to
reside in a substance-free, recovery-based environment. The Recovery House at
Case assists residents in developing healthy life skills while remaining free
of alcohol and other drugs. It is located on Murray Hill
Road, in nearby Little Italy immediately adjacent to classrooms, labs and
University Circle institutions. It is a two-unit, fully furnished
apartment-house with single and double bedrooms. All utilities, internet-cable
and parking are included in the housing contract. Applicants select the
Recovery House option on the Case Western Reserve University Housing website
and complete the Recovery House application on the Prevention
& Recovery Services website at Case. For more information p.
