To the CIA Community: CIA’s future is bright

07/01/22  |  Posted by Kathryn Heidemann  |  Posted in

To begin my term as President + CEO of the Cleveland Institute of Art, I want to share my gratitude and excitement.

First, I am deeply honored to be the 11th president of this great institution and to be the first female president at CIA in over 100 years. That distinction is significant, and as I serve in my new role, I pledge to honor founder Sarah Kimball and first president Harriet Kester. Looking ahead, I so respect the creativity, ingenuity and depth of passion of our students, alumni, faculty, staff and Board that it will truly be my privilege to lead CIA into the future.

My excitement is for what that future holds.

Over the last several months, I’ve conducted listening sessions with many in our community. (Students, I look forward to visiting with you when fall semester begins.) During those sessions, the enthusiasm we share for CIA’s mission—to cultivate creative leaders who inspire people, strengthen communities, and contribute to a thriving and sustainable economy through an innovative education in art and design—shone brightly.

That's been invigorating. We all play an integral role in seeing through our mission and staying true to the values outlined in our strategic plan, and I believe our collective enthusiasm and determination will get us there.

I also believe the opportunities ahead of us at CIA are extraordinary. I look forward to working with all of you to forge a path that builds on our successes and opens new doors, and I deeply appreciate the trust that’s been put in me to lead this most important pursuit.

President + CEO
