Nobody Likes You When You're 23

"Vivian as me" by Laurence Philomene

Add event to my calendar

Imagine an art world populated by the young and enthusiastic. More concerned with their growth as artists and the impact they can make than with how to keep up an established image or how to sell your work to collectors for thousands and thousands of dollar. An art world populated by those conscious of our current dilemma and still have a belief in the way things can change. The young have always been agents for change; unfortunately the systems we find ourselves in follow the logic of the idea that nobody likes you when you’re 23. We are not viable or people are excited about us for the sole fact that we can be put in a listicle of “best artists under 25, you won’t believe number 5!” because we won’t be useful until we’re products to be sold. This show wants to meet the artists on their own terms. Evan Fusco '16 curates the one-night-only show of work by Olive Ayers, Alex Morante, Cooper Hepburn, Amber N. Ford, Laurence Philomene, Lauren Bailey, Leila Khoury, Meghan Calvert, Hobbes Ginsberg, Evan Fusco, Megan Tepper, Sara May, Ryan McKrell, Jillian Carlock, Liz Barr, Kyle J. Osborne, Jessi Lembo, Shannon Wilt, Carmen Hurtado Esteve, Lora Mathis, Kathleen Deems, James Waite, Emery Allen, Amelia Pitcherella, Ricky Hamilton, Marco Ciofani, Leonard Baum and Noorann Matties.
