Where Cleveland Institute of Art, Ann and Norman Roulet Student + Alumni Gallery
Kari Russell-Pool (CIA '90) is best known for her innovative approach to flame-worked glass often described as creating form from pattern. Filled with personal content and commentary about our present society, the hard work of relationships, and experience as a mom, her work tells many stories. Perspective, a series of works on paper, is a departure in medium, but not content.
Exploring the gaming of American policy during yet another fractious political season, Russell-Pool focuses on the high stakes of these games. Games by definition are reduced to winners and losers, devoid of compromise while compromise is the cornerstone of a strong democracy. As a woman with a mature and informed understanding of what it means to both choose and devote oneself to parenthood, she confronts the absurdity of reducing access to birth control and the horror of subjecting our children to gun violence.
Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm. For inquiries about work, please contact Nikki Woods at nwoods@cia.edu.
