Spend a lunch hour learning about the latest in art and design during these Friday lectures. Each lecture features a variety of artists and designers from around the world, including CIA faculty and visiting artists. This event is free and open to the public. Pizza and beverages will be provided.

Mauricio Cortés Fuentes is a printmaker and goldsmith from Santiago, Chile. He studied with Master goldsmith Waldo Villalón and received his own Master goldsmithing degree from the Liceo Experimental Artistico, and earned a printmaking degree from the Universidad de Chile in 2013. In 2012 he worked at Contrahuella Artes Gráficas as a printer/technician and is currently Deputy Director at Aguafuerte Taller de Grabado y Dibujo where he assists in teaching classes and seminars for shop and university students.

Mauricio specializes in silver Filigree work—tiny beads or twisted threads, or both in combination, soldered together or to the surface of an object, to create decorative objects, like rings and earrings. His delicate work translates to print using the intricate approaches of etching and engraving.

Mauricio is in an artist's residency at Zygote Press through the Cleveland Foundation's Creative Fusion program.

Cleveland Institute of Art is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
