Add event to my calendar

Spend a lunch hour learning about the latest in art and design during these Friday lectures. Each lecture features a variety of artists and designers from around the world, including CIA faculty and visiting artists. This event is free and open to the public. Pizza and beverages will be provided.

Bickford visiting artist Cat Mazza will speak about her art practice, which combines digital media with traditional needlecraft to explore the relationships between textiles, technology, and labor. We will consider the political potential of craft and technology. Animation, textiles, and custom software will be screened and demonstrated.

Mazza, from Brooklyn, NY, has received fellowships from Creative Capital, the Rockefeller Foundation, MacDowell Colony, and the Craft Research Fund. Her work has exhibited at museums internationally, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Triennale di Milano in Italy, Garanti Gallery in Istanbul, and in the U.S. at the Museum of Contemporary Craft (Portland), the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Museum of Art and Design (New York). Her animation, Knit for Defense, is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She is an associate professor of art at University of Massachusetts, Boston.

Cleveland Institute of Art is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
