Superfluous Fowl is a construction of a domestic setting intended to function as a total work of art narrating my character flaws of indecision, gluttony, and anxiety. The work is meant to invoke the spatio-temporality of literature and of the home, in order to allow viewers a more elongated experience. The physical objects house a storyworld constructed from children’s literature, colloquial phrases and my personal narrative. By making this body of work about indecision, the decisions I have made have been heightened, giving me a deeper understanding of what a decision is and what remains without one.
This work serves as the culmination of a body of work that I have been engaged in for several years using the duck as my personal totem. I am coming to the understanding that this parallel has grown superfluous, and so I take this last chance to examine the gluttonous relationship and begin to record the process of moving on to the anxious unknown. This work is an attempt at self-understanding for the maker and for the viewer.
