Lunch on Fridays: American Indians: The Invisible People

Add event to my calendar

Spend a lunch hour learning about the latest in art and design during these Friday lectures. Each lecture features a variety of artists and designers from around the world, including CIA faculty and visiting artists.

Robert Roche is Director of the American Indian Education Center and principal figure in their four-decade “Camgaign for Dignity,” which calls for the retirement of both the baseball team name, Indians, and its mascot, “Chief Wahoo.” Roche will present a talk that brings a new perspective to questions raised by CIA’s freshman summer reading, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.

This event is free and open to the public. Pizza and beverages will be provided.

Photo: Janet E. Super, a United Methodist from Bellingham, Wash., demonstrates her opposition to the Cleveland Indians baseball team's use of a stereotyped Indian face for its mascot. Super was one of some 40 United Methodists who demonstrated at the game, held during the denomination's 2000 General Conference. A UMNS photo by Paul Jeffrey. Photo number gc2kK17, 5/11/00
