Continuing Education . Pre-College Classes 2017 . Painting

As Painting students, you will begin your exploration through color theory and application of materials.

You will practice building up the surface of a painting, experimenting with layering and composition. As confidence in the use of materials grows, you’ll draw inspiration from your sketchbook and the work of professional artists to begin crafting your unique vision. Combining materials and imagery, you will
investigate how to express your feelings, beliefs and voices to convey a strong message in your art.

We will discuss successes and challenges as a group to build confidence and create a sense of community. Our class will culminate with a small body of work that stems directly from students’ experiences and interests.

Our 2017 session has ended. Please check back for more info on our 2018 session.

Graffiti HeArt will be working with CIA to provide Pre-College scholarships in 2017. These scholarships will be awarded based on a review of portfolios and a determination of both merit and need. With the mission, “To Inspire Health and Art in the Community,” the local nonprofit focuses on promoting graffiti art and artists through community revitalization projects, funding art education and scholarships for underserved youth in our communities. More information on Graffiti HeArt can be found at

A limited number of partial, need-based scholarships are also available. To apply for a scholarship you must submit a 2016 income tax return of the parent(s) or guardian(s) who claim(s) you as a dependent as well as the parent’s (or guardian’s) spouse’s tax return (if applicable).

Mike Meier is an artist living and working in Cleveland, Ohio. Meier’s work emerges from his past as a musician and illustrator in the underground punk scene of Cleveland, drawing inspiration from dystopian science fiction, neuroscience, and history, his drawings and paintings rely on a multiplicity of ways of seeing to examine the psychic space of the ahistorical present. He currently holds a lecturer position in Drawing, Painting, and Foundations at the Cleveland Institute of Art, where he received his BFA in Drawing. He earned his MFA from Washington University in St. Louis. His work has been exhibited both locally and nationally, most recently at FORUM Artspace in the solo exhibition Man Out of Time.
