Recycled Books

Course No. CEFM 165 00
Cost $325 Register Now
Sessions 8
Dates September 24-November 12 (Thursday) – 6:309:30pm

Traditional bookbinding can be expensive and often requires specialty equipment. Recycled Bookbinding is a course that will teach students the basics of bookbinding by using materials they already have in their homes. It’s a great alternative for those who want to create new objects, while remaining environmentally friendly. Students will learn how to properly handle the essential binding tools and will make both adhesive and nonadhesive books. The pamphlet stitch, kettle stitch, Coptic stitch, secret Belgian binding, piano hinge, accordion book, and perfect bound book will all be covered, as well as ways to create unique cover and page materials. Classes will be very hands-on, giving students plenty of time to experiment with different materials. Some out-ofclass preparations will be assigned.
