Members of the Garrel clan—director Philippe, his actor father Maurice, his then-wife Brigitte Sy, and his then five-year-old son Louis (making his screen debut)—essentially play themselves in this tender, wrenching drama showing here in a rare 35mm print imported from France. The movie follows a philandering filmmaker who foments family discord when he refuses to cast his actress wife in a role largely based on her. “[A] masterpiece.” –Sight & Sound. Subtitles. 90 min.
