Cleveland theatrical premiere.
LA REINA DE ESPAÑA
Spain
| 2016 | Fernando Trueba
Penélope Cruz reunites with the director of the Oscar-winning Belle Epoque in this all-star farce about 1950s moviemaking in Franco’s Spain. Cruz plays a Spanish movie star who, after success in Hollywood, returns to Madrid to shoot a lavish American musical about Queen Isabella. But the production is beset with problems: the director (Clive Revill) is a drunk, the screenwriter (Mandy Patinkin) has been blacklisted, and the leading man (Cary Elwes) is both gay and wooden. With Javier Cámara and directors J.A. Bayona and Arturo Ripstein. Subtitles. DCP. 128 min.
