In it, the self-proclaimed “psychomagician” filmmaker returns to the coastal Chile of his childhood to tell a singularly strange tale of growing up. The result is a Spanish-language Amarcord that blends autobiography with metaphor, myth, and poetry, and teems with grotesque and colorful characters, surreal incidents, and indelible images.
