New 4K Digital Restoration!
United States | 1968 | D.A. Pennebaker
Fifty years ago this weekend (June 16-18, 1967), the Monterey Pop Festival took place on the county fairgrounds in Monterey, California, kicking off the Summer of Love. This granddaddy of all outdoor music fests featured such artists as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Who, Otis Redding, Ravi Shankar, Simon and Garfunkel, the Mamas and the Papas, and Hugh Masekela (among others), many launching their American careers. Pioneering “direct cinema” documentary filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker (Don’t Look Back) captured the proceedings on 16mm color stock, and now his classic concert movie has been fully restored in 4K with 5.1 surround sound. Don’t miss it! Cleveland revival premiere. DCP. 78 min.
