Called the best film of 2010 by J. Hoberman in The Village Voice, this delightful movie by Portugal’s late centenarian master tells of a loner photographer who is summoned one rainy night to take a picture of the recently-deceased daughter of a wealthy couple. But when he looks at this beautiful young woman, laid out in her wedding dress, through his viewfinder, she comes alive and smiles for him. Immediately smitten, he retreats from the land of the living to try to join her in the netherworld beyond.
