The Dance of Reality

La Danza De La Realidad
Chile, France | 2013 | Alejandro Jodorowsky

The first feature in 23 years from the director of the cult classics El Topo, The Holy Mountain, and Santa Sangre (see 7/17 at 6:00) is a triumph! The NY Times calls it "something very close to a masterpiece," and The Village Voice says it “may be Alejandro Jodorowsky's best film." The movie finds the octogenarian director, a self-proclaimed "psychomagician," returning to the coastal Chile of his childhood to tell a singularly strange tale of growing up. The result is a Spanish-language Amarcord that blends autobiography with metaphor, myth, and poetry, and teems with grotesque and colorful characters, surreal incidents, and indelible images. Essential viewing! "The work of a highly disciplined anarchist, whose principal weapon against authority is his own imagination." -The NY Times.

130 min. Blu-ray. Subtitles. Cleveland premiere.
