After three very successful screenings at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the crowd-pleasing new documentary HARVARD BEATS YALE, 29-29 is coming to the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Kevin Rafferty's acclaimed film about a legendary 1968 college football game, and the men who played in it (including former Clevelander and St. Ignatius grad Brian Dowling and current Clevelanders Fran and Jim Gallagher), has been added to the Cinematheque's schedule at 7:00 pm Thursday, May 14. Hailed by The New York Times as "preposterously entertaining," HARVARD BEATS YALE, 29-29 zeroes in on an 11/23/68 game between two arch rivals that were each undefeated that year going into the match. It was a politically volatile time. Superstar Brian Dowling (the inspiration for Donnesbury's B.D.) led the Yale offense; Tommy Lee Jones played for Harvard. J. Hoberman in The Village Voice has called the 105-min. film "the best football movie I've ever seen." For further information, call (216) 421-7450 or click here. The theatre is located at 11141 East Boulevard in University Circle. Tickets (at the door) are $8, Cinematheque members $6.
