Cinematheque . This Week At The Cinematheque, 1/22-25/09
What more can we say? THE GODFATHER is probably the greatest gangster movie ever made; THE GODFATHER PART II is perhaps even better -- an epic about America and the corruption of the American Dream. Francis Coppola's two-part saga -- probably the most potent one-two punch in American cinema history -- makes its Cinematheque debut this weekend, in newly-struck, fully-restored 35mm film prints ("the Coppola Restoration"). Also you can come and see THE SOUND BARRIER, David Lean's portrait of airplane builders and test pilots who try to exceed the speed of sound, shows on Sunday night. Also you can see A SOLDIER'S PRAYER is the final part of Masaki Kobayashi's 3-part epic "The Human Condition," a humanistic saga of a Japanese pacifist during WWII.
