iOS 6 is coming!

08/28/12  |  Posted by Vanesa Jeric  |  Posted in Digital Creativity

Apple is planning to release iOS 6 this fall, and no need to connect to a Mac to update. Users will be able to download and install iOS 6 right from their iPads. This means a couple brand new features, and several tweaks to make the apps that you use everyday more efficient. Apple has seperated itself from Google with the Maps app, using custom designs and also introducing a 3D fly-through of major cities called Flyover. What makes it so impressive is that the maps are vector-based so when you zoom in and out the picture stays crisp and clear. Siri, a voice prompted app has been substantially upgraded to include better data to answer your questions. You can also launch apps with Siri and utilize turn-by-turn directions within the Maps app. Highly anticipated in the social world, is how Facebook will be fully integrated with iOS 6. You don't have to close out of an app to share to Facebook. Share your high score in your favorite game, sync your friends' birthdays to your calendar, and even tell Siri to update your status for you. One of the tweaks to Photo app this fall will be the ability to select individually the pictures you want to share and watch them on Apple TV. This is great for artists who have their work on their devices and want to share a certain project with the class or friends and family. FaceTime has been updated to work over cellular connections, and the Phone app includes a feature to send a message to a caller if they are unable to answer or set a reminder to call them back. These are only some of the new features that will be available, keep an eye out for a more detailed post when iOS 6 has arrived! Or you can take a look at Apple for a complete list of features.
