Morgan Spurlock captures geeks galore in COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN'S HOPE. COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN'S HOPE is the new documentary by Morgan Spurlock (SUPER SIZE ME). It focuses on San Diego's annual Comic-Con, the largest comic book convention in the world, which has become a mecca for thousands of geeks and fanboys, many of them in costume. Joss Whedon, Kevin Smith, Stan Lee, Harry Knowles, and Eli Roth also appear in the film, which premieres in Cleveland on Friday and Saturday. Read Joanna Connors' Sunday Plain Dealer article about the film . Bobcat Goldthwait takes on U.S. pop culture in savage comedy GOD BLESS AMERICA GOD BLESS AMERICA is the latest hilarious cry of rage from comedian-turned-filmmaker Bobcat Goldthwait (SHAKES THE CLOWN, WORLD'S GREATEST DAD). The movie tells of a divorced, middle-aged, terminally-ill everyman (Joel Murray, brother of Bill) who teams up with a high school girl to rid American society of some of its most offensive elements: people who text during movies, reality show stars, drivers who straddle two parking spaces, et al. Goldthwait describes his movie as "a very violent film about kindness" and critics have been very complimentary. The Huffington Post called it "the most important movie to come out this year?Original, thought-provoking and fun." Paper branded it "bloody brilliant and funny as hell. It's TAXI DRIVER for the TMZ generation." Adults can see it Friday or Saturday. Paul Newman stars in SOMETIMES A GREAT NOTION, from Ken Kesey novel Paul Newman and Henry Fonda star in Newman's second directorial outing, SOMETIMES A GREAT NOTION (1970), based on the novel by Ken Kesey. The two screen legends play stubbornly independent Oregon loggers who refuse to stop work during a crippling general timber strike, thus angering the locals. The movie's greatest sequence features Richard Jaeckel, who was nominated for an Oscar. Lee Remick and Michael Sarrazin also star. Last November, when SOMETIMES A GREAT NOTION was revived at the BAMcinematek, Time Out New York gave the film "four stars," calling it "a dazzling oddity: simultaneously melodramatic and stoic, goofy and majestic, rousing and devastating." See it in a new 35mm color & scope print on Thursday or Friday. Willem Dafoe tracks rare Tasmanian tiger in Aussie eco-thriller THE HUNTER Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill star in Daniel Nettheim's THE HUNTER , a new Australian eco-thriller based on an acclaimed 1999 novel by Julia Leigh, the writer and director of the SLEEPING BEAUTY we showed in March. The film tells of a mercenary (Dafoe) who is summoned to Tasmania by a multinational military-biotech company when an animal long thought extinct, the Tasmanian tiger, is sighted there. Masquerading as a scientist, this ruthless loner tracks the animal in order to kill it and extract tissue samples for pharmaceutical use. But his mission is complicated when he becomes involved with a grieving woman and her two children and witnesses a local battle between loggers and tree-huggers.See this stunningly shot drama on Thursday only. Crowd-pleasing JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI is the food film of the year! David Gelb's JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI profiles Japan's 85-year-old Jiro Ono, perhaps the world's best sushi chef. Jiro is seen at Sukiyabashi Jiro, his ten-seat sushi-only restaurant located in a Tokyo subway station, where he continuously strives for perfection in taste and presentation. One of our biggest hits from this past spring, it returns for one more show on Saturday night.
