Fellini's epic of 1960 decadence LA DOLCE VITA returns in new restored print! Federico Fellini's Italian classic LA DOLCE VITA, one of the landmark movies of the modern era, is now fully restored! This expansive, scandalous survey of "the sweet life" circa 1960 focuses on a tabloid gossip columnist (Marcello Mastroianni) who is both attracted and repelled by the decadence and excesses of Rome's fashionable but soulless jet set. Critic Jonathan Rosenbaum, who regards the movie as one of his 100 favorite films of all time, has called it "sublimely wacko?a riotous satire of capitalism." There a skin-headed guide with special powers (a "stalker") leads a writer and a scientist into a fenced-off, forbidden Zone-part primeval forest, part post-industrial wasteland-toward its mysterious inner sanctum, where one's deepest desires are said to come true. Undistributed on film in the U.S., STALKER is regarded by many as Tarkovsky's supreme masterpiece.
