Blog . Free eBooks from the Cleveland Public Library
Here are instructions on how to use your iPad to check out free eBooks and audio books from the Cleveland Public Library. No due dates to remember in fear of late fees-- the file simply expires at the end of the check-out period! Before you start, make sure you've signed up for a library card from the local public library. Your CIA library card will NOT work. You can sign up for a library card at any Cleveland or Cuyahoga county library. The closest branch is on Coventry (just a block away from Utrecht, where you'll buy your art supplies!). Once you've got that out of the way, you're ready to read on your iPad! First, go to your App Store and download the OverDrive app. Once it's installed, tap the OverDrive icon to open it. You can see here I've made a folder for all my book apps. To download library ebooks, you'll need an Adobe ID. The screen will prompt you to enter your ID and password, or if you don't have one yet, you can click and sign up. (The ID is part of the ebook's DRM, to keep the file from being emailed.) If you had to close the app to sign up, you can find the log-in screen by tapping the "Get Books" button in the top right corner, and then by tapping "Settings" at the bottom. Now you just need to add your local library! Click the "Get Books" button at the bottom to pull up this screen. Tap "Add a Library", and search for your local branch. The closest branch is the Cleveland Hts Coventry Library Branch, but all Cleveland area libraries should forward you to the same database. Selecting your library will take you to http://emedia.clevnet.org/. Simply log in with your existing library account and you'll be able to check out whichever ebooks or audio books you'd like! You can put books on hold and will receive an alert when it's available to download, or select "Show only available titles" if you're looking for something to read immediately. Once you've found a book you like, tap "Add to Select List". When you've got all the books you'd like, tap "Proceed to Checkout", then "Confirm Checkout". The checkout page will let you know how long you can have the file before it will expire. You can have 20 ebooks checked out at a time. Tapping "Download" will take you back to the OverDrive app. The file will download to your iPad, and you're good to go! Select your book and start reading.
