Celebrate with the Cleveland Institute of Art community
In the first week of May, CIA presents the extraordinary final work of our 2011 graduating class during the BFA Thesis Show. Each CIA senior presents a personal exhibition—displaying the artistic vision they’ve developed during their four years as an art or design student at CIA. Visit nearly 80 exhibitions, speak with our student artists, and experience the future of art and design.
See the renovated JMC
If you haven’t visited our historic Joseph McCullough Center since renovations were completed this winter, take this chance to explore. Open rooms with signage explain significant energy efficiency upgrades underwritten by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program.
About the BFA experience
Throughout their senior year, all CIA students work on a unique capstone experience—the BFA thesis exhibition. We believe this is the most important moment in our students’ professional launch. BFAs take many forms, but are ultimately a student’s gallery exhibit or design pitch. Each BFA candidate creates a body of work, presents it to the CIA community, and responds to their critique. As part of this yearlong project, students also develop an artist’s statement that explains and frames their vision. They present as professionals and are critiqued as professionals—with the focus on refining an individual artistic path.
