Overview

2D3D winners announced

Eight high school students from across U.S. take top honors in 2D3D

Students from Illinois, Ohio, South Carolina, and Wisconsin are being awarded cash prizes and thousands of dollars in scholarship money as winners of the Cleveland Institute of Art’s second 2D3D National Art + Design Competition. The winning artworks were selected by a panel of CIA faculty and submitted by 1,076 students representing over 450 American high schools in 42 states.

Each Best-in-Category winner receives $500 and the Best-in-Show winner is awarded an additional $2,500. All category winners are awarded valuable art supplies from contest sponsor Faber-Castell. Most significantly, each winner will receive a $10,000 annual scholarship – a total of $40,000 for four years – should he or she choose to attend CIA.

Best in Show Winner

"Psychosis" by Michael Baer, Junior; Downers Grove South High School; Hometown: Woodridge, IL 

Best in Category winners

The Best in Category winners will receive a $500 cash prize, a $10,000 annual scholarship ($40,000 total) to the Cleveland Institute of Art, and a prize from our sponsor, Faber-Castell.

Juror's Special Merit winners

The Juror's Special Merit winners will receive a $200 cash prize.

  • Visual Arts: "Sugar Addict" by Emily Kofsky, Senior; Arlington High School; Hometown: Poughkeepsie, NY
  • Integrated Media: "Sinking Dreams" by Cristofer Goodman, Senior; Sonoma Valley High School; Hometown: Glen Ellen, CA
  • Design: "Proton EV Concept Electric Car" by John O'Laughlin, Junior; Crawford County Career and Technical Center; Hometown: Meadsville, PA
  • Craft: "Pheonix" by Sabrina Kennedy, Junior; The Hill School; Hometown:  Emmaus, PA 

Missouri teacher wins $1,000 in art supplies

Congratulations to Michelle Thompson from Jefferson R-7 High School in Festus, MO, who was randomly selected in a drawing to win $1,000 worth of art supplies from Blick.
