Four High School Students Awarded in CIA's National 2D3D Art + Design Contest

Admissions . Contest . Guidelines + Category Descriptions . Integrated Media Category

Integrated Media Category

The Integrated Media Category includes, but is not limited to:

Animation

  • Description:
    • Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of images to create an illusion of movement.
  • Examples:
    • Animation can be made with either hand rendered art, computer generated imagery, or three-dimensional objects such as puppets or clay figures.
  • Special Instructions:
    • Submissions: For each animation submission, you can upload only one video file:
The time limit for the video is five minutes, and should not exceed 350 MB.
    • The animation must be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo, and then you must provide the URL in the Video (YouTube/Vimeo) field of the submission form.
    • Please do not mail us a DVD or storage device containing your entry. All media must be uploaded directly to the online registration system.

    • Since the awards are blindly judged (jurors will not see the identity of the students who are entering work), please do not include any credits in your film.

Game Design

  • Description:
    • Game design is a development process that includes designing content, rules, environment, storyline and characters depending on what type of game it is.
  • Examples:
    • Examples of game design today primarily take the form of electronic games, and run off various types of gaming platforms such as Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation or Dreamcast to name a few. Other types of game design include board games, card games, and social games.
  • Special Instructions:
    • Video game submissions may be entered in one of the two following ways:
      • 1. Video Game Concept Documents: Concept documents that provide a clear description for the core game play, visual style and (if appropriate to the game) characters and storyline. Submissions can be hand-drawn and/or computer generated but must include an overview of the core game play.
      • 2. Playable Game: Students may create playable games using the following recommended programs: Scratch, Flash, Game Salad and Game Maker. Alternatively, students may submit work in another platform where the final game can be played by the judges on a browser or a personal computer without the purchase of any proprietary software or having to register for a private community.
    • Submissions: Key Elements
      • For Video Game Concept Document  submissions, you can upload up to four files (video, photo, or pdf). You must also enter a 250-500 word gameplay summary in the provided text editor on the Upload page.
      • For Playable Games, you can upload one .zip file (.rar or .swf files are acceptable, but they must be zipped before being uploaded). You must also enter a 250-500 word gameplay summary in the provided text editor on the Upload page.

Illustration

  • Description:
    • Illustration is a depiction that is created to inform and elucidate a story, poem, magazine or newspaper article, etc.
  • Examples:
    • Illustrations can take the form of drawings, paintings, photographs, collages and numerous other media used for the traditional field of illustration.

Photography

  • Description:
    • Photography is the art, science and practice of creating images by recording light using light sensitive film or by a digital sensor.
  • Examples:

  • Special Instructions:

Video/Film

  • Description:
    • Video and film include the process of capturing, recording, processing, storing, transmitting, and reconstructing a sequence of still images representing scenes in motion.
  • Examples:
    • Examples of video and film include movies, documentaries, commercials, home movies, and the news.
  • Special Instructions:
    • Video Entry Agreement Form: Students who submit work to this category are required to complete the Video Entry Agreement Form (per video entry) and submit it along with their entry to the registration form.
