Dan is a designer, educator and entrepreneur. He consults in the area of industrial design, design strategy and user experience, and is an expertwitness in IP litigation. He is the Founder and Principal Designer for AbeoDesign LLC, a sustainable furniture manufacturing company. He is the former Director of Design at Altitude, Inc, an award-winning product development firm in Boston, MA, and he worked as a consultant for Arthur D. Little, an international management and product development consulting firm. He has won several IDSA/IDEA awards and holds multiple patents. He has written for Innovation Magazine, The Design Management Institute Journal, and is co-author of the book ‘Process, Materials and Measurements.’ He has lectured in Mexico, The United Kingdom, and around the US. Dan is a co-founder of the District of Design economic development initiative aimed at positioning Northeast Ohio as a recognized center of design and innovation excellence. Dan is pursuing a Ph.D. in Management from the Weatherhead School of Management.

Profile:
Doug Paige has been both a practicing design professional and educator with a focus on design process. His current research incorporates biomimicry into design methodology, including the Biomimicry Professional program with Biomimicry 3.8, undergrad and graduate education, and his own product design work. His current work includes exploring how nature can help solve human problems in both industrial and developing communities. Along with his studio classroom projects, doug has been developing new models of education, collaborating with local organizations to bring together students and the community for special projects including; pallet furniture, urban bike racks, studio furniture from deconstructed houses and using natural systems to study the Cuyahoga River bulkheads and fish health. Doug brings together his diverse backgrounds in industrial design, product development, education and biomimicry to create a unique lens for exploring complex problems.
Experience:
Doug holds a bachelors degree in Industrial Design from The Cleveland Institute of Art, along with a Biomimicry Professional Certificate from Biomimicry 3.8. As an Associate Professor of Industrial Design he has built collaboration with the University of Akron’s Integrated Bioscience PhD program to help create the first PhD program in Biomimicry. His teaching experience also includes working with Biomimicry 3.8 in the B-Specialist program. Before joining the Cleveland Institute of Art Faculty in 1998, Doug spent 16 years as a practicing designer with Thomson Consumer Electronics and consulting firms in California and Ohio, designing a variety of products including: consumer electronics, medical equipment, luggage and a day cruise ship for the Hawaiian Islands. In addition to teaching, He maintains a design consultancy with technical, medical and outdoor sporting goods manufacturers.

Carla is the founder and principal partner of Design Interface Inc. an award winning design consultancy specializing in industrial, graphic, package and web design. She teaches Ergonomics and Design and Marketing and Design. In 1998 Carla received the Lily Grant to study women in design and in 2005 she authored a chapter on Ergonomics for the book Process Materials and Measurements, published in collaboration with the ID Department and fellow faculty member Dan Cuffaro.

Dennis is an visiting instructor in Industrial Design at CIA. He has worked with clients such as Coleman, Ames, Weber, Proctor and Gamble, Sherwin Williams, and Moen. He has produced over 100 products and is named on 31 patents. His several awards include having the number 1 National New Product of the Year at Sherwin Williams for the Plastic Paint Container.

Anthony is an adjunct faculty member in the Industrial Design department at The Cleveland Institute of Art. Anthony has worked as a designer at Cyclonics Inc. and American Greetings. He has also done freelance work for IO Design, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Rogers Displays, and Jacobson and Associates among several other projects as well.
