Dan Cuffaro is a designer, educator, and entrepreneur. He consults in the area of industrial design, design strategy and user experience, and is an expert witness in IP litigation. He is the founder and principal designer of nCamp LLC (ncampgear.com), an outdoor goods company, and Abeo Design LLC, his consulting practice. He is the former director of design at Altitude, Inc, an award-winning product development firm in Boston, MA, and he worked as a consultant for Arthur D. Little, an international management and product development consulting firm. He has won several IDSA/IDEA awards and holds multiple patents. He has written for Innovation Magazine, The Design Management Institute Journal, and is co-author of The Industrial Design Reference & Specification Book. He has lectured in Mexico, The United Kingdom, China, and around the US.

Carla J. Blackman

Carla Blackman is a designer, artist and adjunct faculty at CIA. She is the founder and principal partner of Design Interface Inc., an award-winning design consultancy specializing in industrial, graphic, package and web design.

Carla has been a faculty member since 1985 in the Industrial Design program at CIA. She graduated with a degree in Industrial Design from Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, London, England. She also holds an MBA in Marketing from Cleveland State University.

Carla also leads Urban Sketchers Cleveland, part of the world-wide Urban Sketchers. They hold sketch crawls once a month in different locations around Cleveland.

Dennis Futo

Dennis is an educator, designer and founder of InsightDesign, LLC, a full-service product design consultancy developing consumer products, medical devices and industrial equipment for Fortune 500 Companies and Entrepreneurial startups. He worked as a consultant at Babcock & Schmid Design and was designer and director at Nottingham Spirk Design, an award-winning product development firm in Cleveland, Ohio.

He has won several IDEA and Popular Mechanics awards and is named on over 40 patents. He has lectured and ran collaborative student workshops at local high schools and has been interviewed on WKYC Channel 5 Live News on the topic Housewares Design Competition/Judging, WDOK (AM) radio and WVIZ/PBS on CIA and ID Career Opportunities.

When not designing or teaching Dennis spends his time enjoying the outdoors on his farm with his wife and two horses.

Doug Paige has been both a practicing design professional and educator with a focus on design process. His current research incorporates biomimicry into design methodology, including the Biomimicry Professional program with Biomimicry 3.8, undergrad and graduate education, and his own product design work. His current work includes exploring how nature can help solve human problems in both industrial and developing communities. Along with his studio classroom projects, doug has been developing new models of education, collaborating with local organizations to bring together students and the community for special projects including; pallet furniture, urban bike racks, studio furniture from deconstructed houses and using natural systems to study the Cuyahoga River bulkheads and fish health. Doug brings together his diverse backgrounds in industrial design, product development, education and biomimicry to create a unique lens for exploring complex problems.

Experience:

Doug holds an MS in Biomimicry from Arizona State University, with a Biomimicry Professional Certificate from Biomimicry 3.8. along with a BFA in Industrial Design from The Cleveland Institute of Art, along with a Biomimicry Professional Certificate from Biomimicry 3.8. As an Associate Professor of Industrial Design he has built collaboration with the University of Akron’s Integrated Bioscience PhD program to help create the first PhD program in Biomimicry. His teaching experience also includes working with Biomimicry 3.8 in the B-Specialist program. Before joining the Cleveland Institute of Art Faculty in 1998, Doug spent 16 years as a practicing designer with Thomson Consumer Electronics and consulting firms in California and Ohio, designing a variety of products including: consumer electronics, medical equipment, luggage and a day cruise ship for the Hawaiian Islands. In addition to teaching, He maintains a design consultancy with technical, medical and outdoor sporting goods manufacturers.

Adrian Slattery is the founder and principal partner of Design Interface Inc. an award- winning design consultancy specializing in industrial, graphic, package and web design. He specializes in design for manufacturing and has experience helping entrepreneurial ventures formulate start-up business strategies. For ten years Adrian was operations manager for a specialty chemical company where he was responsible for custom process equipment design, plant construction and operations management. For the past 15 years he has been principal at Design Interface which has assisted start-up ventures to Fortune 50 companies design, transfer to manufacturing and launch consumer, industrial and medical products.

Adrian has been using his professional experience to teach and enrich the Materials and Manufacturing Processes, and Business and Professional Practice, Entrepreneur classes since 2003.

Jason Tilk is a passionately creative, multi-talented, educator, designer, and leader listed as inventor on 66 patents and counting. Focusing on team driven work to lead the process of innovation, working closely with his students and clients, he leverages experience, listening, and optimism developed throughout a creative career to bring life to any program. He is a former creative designer at General motors, and Nottingham Spirk. He has several awards ranging from "Popular Science’s Best of CES 2013", "The Edison Award", and The "Nortech Innovation Award". Currently the founder and principle at TilkDESIGN he has demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and bring vision to the beginning of the process, and clarity through the end. Driven by the challenge of creating something from nothing, and bringing transformative progressive solutions to human, and planet driven needs.
