Jeff Harter grew up among the Fingerlakes, the Great Lakes, and 6.7 million acres of the Adirondack Park. It was the perfect setting for the imagination to run wild. When he wasn't blowing his allowance at Gary's comic book shop or on an early Spielberg or Lucas film, he was filling his sketchbook with stories and drawings of robots, monsters, super heroes and other whimsical characters.
Jeff studied illustration under Alan E. Cober at the University of Buffalo. After initially working as a freelance editorial illustrator, Jeff pursued his childhood dream of working in animation. He studied character animation at California Institute of the Arts, then was recruited by the Walt Disney Animation Studio in Burbank, California to work as an assistant animator. While at Disney, he contributed to the feature films “Hercules”, “Mulan” and “Tarzan”. He briefly left Disney to earn his Master of Arts degree in illustration at Syracuse University, then returned to become the supervising character artist for the “Winnie the Pooh” characters at Disney Consumer Products.
Jeff traded Disney, Burbank, and Pooh Bear for American Greetings, Cleveland, and The Care Bears, while thinking that he left his animation career behind. After spending two years with Cheer, Share, and Oopsy Bear, he was thrilled to learn that AG Properties was looking to develop new characters, properties, and animated TV shows. He joined the team and created several concepts for animated TV shows. One of those concepts, “Packages from Planet X," went from concept to a green light into full production by Walt Disney. “Packages from Planet X” will air on Disney XD in the summer of 2012. After receiving news of the green light, Jeff was nominated and became the Grand Winner of American Greetings Chairman's Award for the category of Creativity and Innovation.
Another of Jeff’s concepts is currently in a development deal with a major animation studio/broadcaster. When Jeff’s not contributing to his other show, he’s working on the Alternative Humor and New Product Concepts teams.expand collapse
