The Cleveland Institute of Art is seeking a full-time Technical Specialist in the Photography & Video Department to complement and support the undergraduate photography program and its comprehensive facility. The Photography & Video department at CIA is an extensive program providing coursework and facilities for chemical photographic processes (black and white, color and alternative processes), digital imaging, film and video.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing the labs, studios, equipment and facilities under direct supervision of the Photography & Video Department Chair; maintain and order department supplies and equipment; set up and supervision of darkrooms, digital labs, professional lighting studios outfitted with strobes, hot lights, and green screen setups, video lab and sound room. Responsibilities also include organizing, training, and supervising all department work-study students. The TS also assists faculty and students with equipment and technology in studios and photo labs; demonstrates and enforces safety procedures and proper use of equipment; provides routine servicing of computers and printers (including calibration); tracks digital printing; and minor equipment repairs and cleaning. The TS is responsible to facilitate outside contractor repairs of photo and video equipment and facilities as needed and approved by the Department Chair.
Knowledge and Skills required: Should be familiar with digital and film/chemical photography equipment, processes and software as well as lighting, audio and video equipment currently in use by the department and stay up to date with new technologies and trends. Knowledge of spreadsheet software is also essential to the position. The ideal candidate should have strong organizational skills, communication and leadership/supervisory skills; the ability to work with people in a helpful and courteous manner; ability to maintain accurate records and work independently. They must be able to troubleshoot and have proven ability to grow/learn and adapt. The candidate should be proactive, responsible, reliable and work well within a group.
Qualifications: BFA or equivalent related experience in an academic environment preferred; enthusiasm and commitment to working with students; technical skills including both Mac and PC systems, photographic, video, and professional lighting equipment.
Compensation: The position will be assigned to work 35 hours per week for 39 weeks during the academic year and begins January 2018. Position includes hourly wage rate.
