Cleveland Institute of Art, one of the nation’s leading art and design colleges, is seeking an Instruction and Outreach Librarian to provide leadership for the library’s instruction and outreach programs, manage patron services and to provide reference services in a friendly, fast-paced academic library environment. We are seeking an enthusiastic, articulate, service-oriented professional librarian with the desire to develop and promote library services to an art college community, an interest in performing a broad range of library services, the desire to work collegially in a team, the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently, and the capacity to thrive in a changing work environment.
Major responsibilities include providing leadership for the library’s instructional and outreach services; developing, implementing and assessing instruction and outreach; and supervising circulation. The successful candidate also is responsible for assisting with the library’s web page content; supervising the Library Assistant and work study students; and serving on Institute committees; and providing reference and research services.
The successful candidate must have a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited library school. Preference will be given to candidates with at least one year of professional level experience, preferably in an academic or art library. Candidates with information literacy teaching experience, familiarity with information literacy concepts and trends, in particular the Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education and ability to contribute fully to an active information literacy instruction program that values creative instructional design and assessment are highly desired. Demonstrated proficiency using relevant functions of an integrated library system (preferably III’s Sierra) are essential. Additional requirements are proven customer service experience, strong computer skills, experience using electronic resources to provide reference services, effective communication and presentation skills, supervisory experience, excellent attention to detail, and experience managing multiple projects simultaneously. Experience working within a consortial library environment preferred, as is a background in art or art history.
Candidates must be able to lift objects up to 25 pounds each, repetitively handle books up to 5 pounds, move book trucks, move around the library, climb step stools and small ladders, kneel and stoop, use keyboard, answer phones, and must have manual dexterity to handle circulation and patron service functions, understandable speech, and correctable vision.
This is a full time position, and work schedule will vary. Flexibility to work weekend and evening hours is required during the academic year (approximately third week in August to third week in May).
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.
