Graphic Designer

Cleveland Institute of Art, a private college of art and design, is seeking a Graphic Designer. The graphic designer is an integral part of a communications team, working with clients across the college to develop print and digital communications for internal and external audiences.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Research and conceptualize solutions for a broad array of projects.
  • Coordination of design projects, from concept to image research to completion, working with Art Director and Director of Communications.
  • Coordination of design projects and production with internal clients, co-workers and outside vendors
  • Administrative/archival work related to workload

Essential Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Portfolio must demonstrate sophisticated typographic sensitivity, plus strong problem-solving and conceptual thinking.
  • Experience implementing an identity system across integrated communications.
  • Experience working with vendors and billing
  • Experience with offset printing, bindery processes and distribution/fulfillment methodologies

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working in higher education environment
  • Demonstrated experience with basic copy development and editing
  • Experience with image management


  • Interest in and enthusiasm for collaboration
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent typographic and design skills
  • Fluent in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud applications, especially InDesign and Photoshop, with demonstrated strength in typographic issues, multi-page document production, and strong skills in image color correction
  • Experience with ‘Microsoft Office’ product suite, including PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate success in managing projects and final integration, and deliver projects on time within the given budget
  • Ability to work independently on strategic issues with client, capable of managing complex projects.
  • Ability to work on and manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Disciplined to drive and finish projects on time
  • Strong organizational abilities

An undergraduate degree in in a relevant discipline, with three-to-five years’ experience working in the field of print and online design and production is required.
