Get to know us (and our neighborhood)
When you pick The Cleveland Institute of Art, you are choosing to live, work, and learn in a vibrant urban environment—a neighborhood on the cultural pulse of the city. Known as University Circle, this unique community is filled with the city’s most prestigious and innovative educational, cultural, and medical institutions.
Many of our University Circle neighbors are an extension of our classrooms. CIA students regularly visit the Cleveland Museum of Art for art history coursework; Biomedical Art students work with physicians at University Hospitals; and Illustration students derive inspiration from exotic plants and animals in the Cleveland Botanical Garden.
Absorb the culture in our backyard
Grab lunch or dinner up the hill in Little Italy. Or take in a movie at CIA’s Cinematheque—named one of the country’s best repertory movie theaters by The New York Times. Hop on a bus to travel into the heart of Cleveland, about five miles from campus, to take in a Cleveland Indians baseball game, tour the Great Lakes Science Center, or relive the heyday of rock ‘n’ roll at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Schedule your visit
If you like what you see and read, visit us. Walk though our campus, see students working in their own studio, talk with faculty, and share your portfolio. You quickly will notice our small, personalized classroom settings, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 9:1.
Spend some time with our admissions counselors and staff who can answer your questions about our admission requirements, financial aid opportunities, and give advice on preparing your portfolio. Meet with our financial aid staff to discuss the many funding options available to our students.
