Orientations at a Glance
StART is CIA’s mandatory, overnight summer orientation program for all incoming first year students*.
Registering for StART
Once you have deposited to CIA, you will receive information about
StART in the Student Welcome Packet via the mail. The packet will
include information about registering for StART. You must register by
June 27, 2012.
Hurry and sign up now for the program dates you prefer to attend,
because spaces are available on a first-come-first-served basis. If you
cannot come to one of the dates in July, please contact the Office of
Student Life and Housing immediately at studentlife@cia.edu or call 216.421.7429.

* Register for the July 22and 23 session if you are attending the Learning Differences Workshop.
At StART you will:
- Find out what you need for the first day of class
- Take your CIA student ID picture
- Talk with current CIA students, alumni, staff, and faculty
- Fill out your roommate matching form if you plan to live on-campus
- Enjoy dinner in Luetner Dining Hall
- Spend the night in the CIA residence hall, Taplin House
- Make your first CIA t-shirt
StART for Transfer Students is an abbreviated summer orientation program designed specifically for students transferring credits from other institutions of higher education and non-traditional college students**.
Fall Orientation is a mandatory two-day program attended when students move to campus in August. Students will:
- Connect with student peers, faculty, and staff within the college
- Explore academic and social possibilities that lie ahead
- Orient yourself with campus surroundings, such as University Circle, Little Italy, and the many museums the area has to offer
- Get acquainted with Institute Cabinet Members, including CIA’s President and the Dean of Students
- Learn about course expectations and living as a lifetime artist from current faculty members
Learning Differences Workshop is provided by the Office of Learning Support Services. This workshop is specifically for students with documented Learning Differences (i.e. ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, etc.) and is being offered at no extra cost to the students as an addition to the StART program that begins that evening. Students attending this workshop will:
- Be trained on the assistive technology available here at CIA
- Attend seminars on study skills and time management so that they will get the tools they need to jump start their success at college
- Become acquainted with the Learning Support Services Office and be advised how to best access the accommodations available to them here at CIA
*First year students are identified as being any student that has never attended another higher education institution.
**Non-traditional college students are any first-year student that is 22 years of age or older.
